On Friday, April 1st the student organization Stop Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, and Human Trafficking (Stop AVT) hosted a screening of the documentary It Happened Here to kick off its Sexual Assault Awareness Month campaign. After the screening there was a panel discussion that included Madonna University staff, faculty, and security as well as outside members of the community like Wayne County SAFE. The panelists discussed themes of consent, bystander intervention, and prevention of sexual assaults on college campuses as well as answered questions from audience members.
Stop AVT’s mission is to raise awareness of the ongoing issues of sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking as well as the various support systems available to those who have been affected. Stop AVT also hosted multiple events this month regarding sexual assault awareness including a Take Back the Night, which consisted of a march around campus and survivor Speak Out. Stop AVT sold teal ribbons in which all proceeds benefited the survivor relief efforts of Wayne County SAFE.
